historical heritage is an apartment building with some stucco glued to it's facade

you WILL enjoy the glass penis towers and you WILL be happy

I like the new building, could be worse.

>beautiful bad
>ugly good

just why

So that you embrace LGBTQWERTY2+ rights my friend

Profits don't care about your heritage and shit like that. The modern building is bigger, cheaper to maintain and more practical on the inside. Big windows that let in a lot of light and better floorplans is going to make a much better office. Not to mention stuff like the better air quality and climate control that comes with the modern ventilation system. That building isn't even that ugly. I bet it looks amazing on the inside, where it really matters, with all that light coming in compared to what was there before. The only problem with this building is that it doesn't fit in. The style is completely different. I wouldn't give a flying fuck about this kind of building if it was in a city like Oslo.

so why they don't demolish historical heritage in Stockholm?

It's not profitable to build new buildings here.

why wouldn't it be if you have huge housing crisis and people waiting for years in queues for an apartment?

You seriously think the first building is good?

That's why we have a housing crisis. We have stuff like rent control. Because of this they only build cheap commieblocks out in the suburbs. It's impossible to rent in Stockholm.

It's called Brusselization
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brusselization

Vienna did it extensively in the past decades. The city genuinely looked a lot better 20 years ago. It is still one of the best cities in Europe THOUGH but a bit shame

Why dont musicians make baroque music anymore? Architects like any other similar profession wants to go forward. And modern needs and regulations are vastly different from the 19th century

gotta build something.

Because Vienna has a separate renting laws from the rest of the country because the socialist party has been in power there for 100 years.

In pre-WW1 buildings you are only allowed to charge laughably small rents, like seriously Africa tier amounts. In buildings from later areas you can charge whatever the fuck you want. So many building owners remove the old buildings for a new concrete block where they can charge more rent.

It's fucked.

then how come all your pre-WWII apartment buildings look lightyears better than ours do?

I'll never understand the little bug brains of yours, and i don't dislike you I just pity you.
>It isn't that ugly!
>It's more cost effective!
>The first building is ugly LEL XD im so contrarian :D
Even if each one of these points are true, which they very rarely are, (seriously. If you actually think glass and steel construction is cheaper and lasts longer then don't even pretend like you know anything), the point is, and in fact THE VERY POINT of the design of these buildings is that they strip away all the identity and culture from architecture to reduce it to just function, to habitate a utopian world view where there are no borders. Every time you destroy a building like this and replace it with something modern, you chip away at the identity and culture of the country it inhabits.

You can build Bland "white and large glass window :0" type buildings anywhere in the world and noone would bat an eyelid. Perhaps not a problem if you dont care for national identity, and all the diversity inherent in the world, but if you care about europe and see beauty in the different cultures in the world then these buildings are a tumour.

Everytime one of these get built, humanity slips closer towards a grey featureless mess where we're all just ants in some global corporate hellscape.

In areas that are popular building owners charge insane rents regardless, give only 1-3 year rent contracts and tell people to pay and don't tell the government if they want to keep living in a super popular area.

These people obviously have the money to keep their buildings in amazing shape.

>N-no you don't understand, it looks like that because of modern needs and regulations

Why are you so histerical, you absolute dimwit?
The façade in the OP IS ugly, it has nothing to do with being contrarian, if you can't even distinguish a good old building from an ugly one you should stfu altogether.

Wow that sounds exactly like Alexandria and Cairo what the fuck.
You have people here in downtown Cairo paying 2 EGPs for rent every month when otherwise it would’ve been at least 20.000 EGPs lol.
And these kinds of people, they justify it by saying that their grandparents that were renting this property paid the owners at the time, in rent, more than what the apartment costed back then. It’s so fucking stupid, no wonder you see all the old buildings so dilapidated and worn down.

You didn't read what i posted, but it's what I expect from someone like you. It doesn't matter whether it's ugly or not (it's not).

It's ok, you will probably never understand. You will live working at some menial job, die, and be forgotten without ever having known better. Your midwit "im smarter than i think i am" ignorance will have no negative on the world, which is why i simply pity you and nothing else.

because boomers bought up all the stuff on the left, and then built the right so all you can do is rent.
