Some gamer from the 30s who absolutely stole the movement of some dark haired twink and got him executed cause he looks like a faggot while larping he got killed by the government in charge so he can takeover and completely plumet Spain economy irreversibly after his antics
Lay off the cocks, I don't understand anything you're saying.
>1930s
>Spanish Republic is a fucking shitshow
>The left (liberals) got into power, the right (conservatives) are upset
>The government upsets the right by promising liberal reforms, then upsets the left by failing to implement said reforms
>Over time order breaks down, the left assassinates right wing politicians in broad daylight, the right assassinates left wing politicians in broad daylight
>This escalates into a civil war that's effectively just brutal streetfights between the left (now a broad coalition of liberals, communists, socialists and anarchists) and the right (now a broad coalition of conservatives, fascists, catholics and monarchists)
>Meanwhile the Spanish army under Franco is in Morocco (something something Rif)
>Franco decides to back the right, the left uses they navy (which they still control) to prevent the Spanish army from returning to Spain and whooping their asses
>Germany and Italy provide transports, knowing the Spanish Left won't risk sinking them and effectively declaring war on Germany and Italy
>Franco whoops the left and becomes a unifying figure for the right, meanwhile the left fractures: the liberals have become completely sidelined, the communists have co-opted the movement and the anarchists split off and start their own splinter state in Barcelona (so now there's a civil war within a civil war)
>Franco's professional army makes short work out of these hooligans
>After the war Franco tries to unify the country by keeping all of his backers happy: the conservatives get more conservative policies, the monarchists see the return of the monarchy (as a puppet), the fascists get a fascist cabinet, the catholics get a more public role for religion, the socialists get a bullet
>After WW2 he sacks his fascist cabinet, replaces them with Opus Dei and causes the Spanish Miracle
>Today the Spanish left is still seething because he was the only thing standing between Spain and Communism
tl;dr: You should like him
I'll try in 3 sentences:
Generalissimo Fransisco Franco won the civil war with limited foreign intervention. As a result of his victory, Spain shifted from a persistent period of sociopolitical and economic instability into what is known as the Spanish Miracle. His rule was characterized in one word 'pragmatism' and as a result there were serious human rights abuses and political repression during his time in power.
Although the previous republican government was no better and was oftentimes worse in terms of preserving liberty or rights.
I am an admirer of El Caudillo, but I am fully aware of the brutality and repression that occured during the war and his time in office. He was unique in that century because he wasn't initially political but he made some really hard decisions that I am in no way qualified to judge him on. To be honest, I think he did a pretty good job considering the shit storm Spain endured for the past 100 years before he came to power.
