It must sting that they made Johnny Rico a white turbochad, instead of how he is in the book.

Still a good movie imo

>American imperialism
We don't do imperialism. People beg for our shit

...

You wouldn’t be saying that if you were from Buenos Aires

“Thank you for your service”: the Movie

I wouldn't mind living in starship troopers based politcal system

>starship troopers based politcal system
Ironic fascism?

I'm from Buenos Aires and I think the movie captivated the spirit of the city well "and I say kill them all" is literally a stereotypical go to solution "hay que matarlos a todos" is what you should expect when asking a taxi driver or any high test man about literally anything

>Starship Troopers thread on Any Forums
>they all take it at face value
>they don't realize Veerhoeven was a survivor of the Nazi occupation and wanted the audience to think the regime was monstrous

lmao this fact always gets me.

Hasn't Veerhoeven said outright multiple times that his intention was always to satirize fascism, because he thought that this was Heinlein's take on it?
I mean, they even modelled the uniforms after the SS, it doesn't get more blatantly obvious than that.

How can anyone over 15 take it at face value?

>"Look how horrible this nazi society is"
>*shows a literal utopia*
>"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO wtf why are people liking the regime and its military!! its supposed to be lebad because some of the veterans had prostetic limbs "

>you need to serve in the military to even get a citizenship and basic rights
>"utopia"
Mongoloid

More specifically full blown fascism but that it looks so similar is the message. How do you feel about it now?
Pamiętaj twoje prarodzice.

The book is more in detail about it, for example service doesn’t just mean joining the military, you can also do civilian service stuff to get your citizenship, it merely takes longer that way than being a soldier. Basically Heinlein felt that political participation in a city should be contingent on how much an individual has dedicated to protecting and building it. Civilians aren’t discriminated against at all, and plenty like Rico’s parents are very prosperous and content.

>you need to serve in the military to even get a citizenship and basic rights
That is just conscription, if you refuse to serve you lose all your political rights

Visit our country sometime. I was too young when 9/11 happened to appreciate the fervor for what it was, and it was not universal once the wars started, but a lot of people are definitely blinded by nationalism.
As the late Sen. John McCain put it,
>bomb Iran, bomb bomb Iran

*society

>We don't do imperialism.

I hear the book is nothing like the movie, but I like Heinlein so I should have read it long ago.

Conscription is meaningless in modern warfare
It made sense when winning a war was really just a number's game
