The best way to learn any language is by living in the country itself. That's how I learned Indonesian without putting in any effort.
I've learned English as well and didn't forget it. Why? Because a fairly large portion of my life consists of using English websites and consuming English content.
To learn Russian without actually going to Russia, you could become Russia. "digitally". Browse Russian websites (such as Pikabu), watch Russian YouTubers, read Russian books, etc. But of course learning grammar and vocabulary is also a large part of learning.

I don't know why but West Slavic languages I understand more then South
