Everybody here keeps bitching about China's cultural irrelevancy, and that's fine, but how is the West any better? They haven't produced anything great in art and culture for well over a century. Their examples of great artists went from being Wagner and Beethoven to Taylor Swift. There are no more great philosophers, statesmen, painters, architects, poets, etc being produced there. Our only hope for cultural novelty at this point is Russia if they don't succumb to Americanization

At most I've watching some kino out of Hong Kong and that's mostly because of their western influences. Mainland china is culturally more plastic than even we are.

that only proves my point, you have to look at what we consider the essence of cultural works as they were viewed in antiquity. who's to say in 100 years time modern works will be considered classics; a recent example of this is the movie scarface, it was lauded by critics at the time of it's release but today it's considered a classic.
