This Jimmy Carr shit has got me thinking: When exactly did edgy/dark humour become unacceptable? Can anyone pinpoint it to a specific time or incident?

Because when I was growing up, edgy humour was widely accepted and popular. Not everyone enjoyed it, but there was a general acceptance that in comedy "anything goes" and if you find it offensive, then you just don't watch that particular comedian or show or whatever.

Hell, I even remember as recently as a few years ago that you had massive youtubes like Filthy Frank and H3h3 who made their careers off of being edgy as hell and shitting on people. Now, people like that have disowned their old style of humour for being "problematic", and many of them have "gone woke".

What changed? When did it change? Is edgy humour ever going to be acceptable again, or is it 100% finished now?
