China just signed RCEP the largest free trade agreement in the world containing almost all east Asian countries. The USA withdrew from TPP in 2017 basically handing over Asia to China on trade. Turn off the noise (media) and read the signals (money, deals)

It's an undeniable fact that China is nearing the pariah status of places like Iran or NK.
We're just really dependent on their manufacturing for now, but commerce follows diplomatic affairs, and China's policy deters investors. As time goes by, the west will pull its investments and trade relations as the relationship worsens.
Every time there's a gov absorption of a corporation, or some billionaire is forced to leave their position, billions of foreing investments leave Chinese markets to never return.

The fact that they got their immediate neighbours to trade with them isn't a great acheivement, but that's all China can aspire to. A mediterranean-like sphere of influence within its seas, but nothing more.
They don't have the soft power to do anything but that. There will never come a time when people watch chinese sitcoms, follow chinese sports, go to do exchanges in China, or learn chinese to a relevant number.
