Austria
the fact that Austria ever was a great power is the most astonishing in the history of the world really. Look at all the great powers that ever existed and you'll find none like it. They all had good safe location to start off from, a large homogenous population and ample resources. Austria? None of that yet despite all adversities it created one of the largest empires the world had ever seen through cunning diplomacy and hard spirited frontiers men

>Good safe location
Alps
>large homogeneous population
What? Arguably it's not an Empire if it is homogeneous
>ample resources
European Empires literally started because they didn't have resources

You're not special.

Great Britain
Italy
USA
Egypt
Turkey

Empires are cool

1. Roman Republic
2. Roman Empire
3. Holy Roman Empire
4. Byzantine Empire
5. Rüm

name another empire that started from the poorest location literally surrounded by neigbours who were all richer and more powerful?
The kingdom of Bohemia, the kingdom of hungary, then dukes of bavaria, the italian city states, all of them ruled over richer and more powerful realms than us yet we were the ones who ended up dominating the region and ruling them all.

"Austria" didn't do that. Their Habsburgs overlords just fucked their way to the top.

>some shitty wet marshland
>split into 4 to make it seem diverse and interesting
>>"ok, this is based"
do you eat your own shit too?

>Germany
>Germany
>Germany
>Germany
>Germany
I say this exclusively because of the Great One.

I mean yeah the success of any empire is down to its ruling elite after all its them who can make the decisions.

Friedrich the Great? Martin Luther? Otto von Bismarck?

Arguably we started in a pretty poor location, a rainy island poor for agriculture, but you don't see us saying we're special
>but muh neighbours
Rome btfo'd the more powerful Etruscans, Athens btfo'd the Spartans, the Arabs btfo'd the Byzantines and Persians. You're not special.

You know exactly of whom I speak.

Britain, France, Italy, India, and maybe iran or japan idk

Based

India
Thailand
Japan
South America/Mexico (Mayans, Aztecs, Incas, etc)
USA (no really! we have a history!!!)

come on bro on an island you are already in an insanely good defensive location only having to worry about the scots in the north who were a lot weaker kingdom than you. Also England isn't bad for agriculture like the mountainous Austria where you have some few valleys and a little plains in the east and thats it. It can sustain a much larger population for a kingdom.
>ou don't see us saying we're special
I have seen often enough and I think Britain did manage to beat out France who had an even more promising location so there's reason for pride but still not saying you don't is disingenous

Any random five countries that are not on this planet. Infinitely more intriguing than human """history""".

>Arguably we started in a pretty poor location, a rainy island poor for agriculture, but you don't see us saying we're special
Dumbest take ever
The land and climate is good for argriculture
Island = defence from armies
resources = easy cheap coal to start the industrial revolution
inland rivers making the country easily navigable

My own country doesn't count.
1. France (from Franks to Napoleon)
2. Italy (from Rome until the end of Renaissance)
3. Germany (from early middle ages until the end of HRE)
4. America (From colonization until the beginning of Civil War)
5. idk desu maybe Levantine shenanigans
