Mukokuseki. Anime character design is far removed from real world races. Nessa isn’t black she’s just Pokémon-ese. From a world where races don’t map exactly to specific places. Sinnoh/Hisui has anything from coal black to lily white people.
Often black anime characters are either not actually human/not from this earth, or are actually Japanese but drawn as “black”.
