It's still the standard for the more "traditional" section of professional commercial artists, including illustrators and designers. Art directors like regular gallery portfolios better than having to sift through an Instagram feed or Twitter account full of random reposts (plus, you have to log in to browse those beyond a bunch of posts now).
If a professional can't afford a respectable-looking self-hosted site, a Behance or ArtStation gallery could suffice I guess. DA is kind of "niche" and carries a lot of unwanted perceptional baggage, but it's also good enough in terms of presentation.
It's different for the Patreon/commision crowd since that's all about social media though. If you aim to be that sort of artist it's perfectly fine to peddle in IG or Twitter
