Mandalorians

Its amazing all that spawned from one character with such little screen time, and some drawings.

>super stormtrooper design gets recycled into Boba Fett
>Boba Fett's armor is canonically mandalorian, but he himself is not one
>The word mandalorian is not used at all in the entire film series
And yet everyone knows and understands all of this, even if they're not that big of a SW fan. It's amazing how far a good design can go.

More proof that unless you make an obvious bait thread you will get no traction.

I was born in 92 so I really don't get this, but can some boomer anons explain to me... why the fuck did this guy get so popular from his minor appearance in Empire and Return?

It's incredibly how perfectly The Mandalorian understood the appeal of the design and character concept of Boba while the actual literal Boba Fett show did the complete opposite.

Robbie Rodriguez is quite possibly the single last director I would phone if I wanted to do justice to an amoral character who runs and thrives on mystery and ambiguity.

He's a mysterious solo bounty hunter with an incredible armor design and a cool ship

>why the fuck did this guy get so popular from his minor appearance in Empire and Return?
He was a badguy who had a unique look to him that set him apart from Stormproopers and Vader and got to speak to Vader in a non-groveling sense, after Vader explicitly scolded him about messing up another job, giving Boba an air of ruthlessness about not caring about how brutal he is to his quarry.

This resonated with kids at the time when they saw it and it carried on in their heads into adulthood. Kinda like how I see the Nazgul from TLoTR trilogy as the most badass shit ever. Shit you interpret as awesome at that particular age leaves a lasting impression.

>Take cool looking background character that briefly appears
>Essentially split him into his two parts and became a large part of the lore
>His armor became the origin of the Mandalorians, being basically Space Muslims who refuse to take their armor off
>His body became Jango Fett and the clone army, a large part of the prequel trilogy
I never understood this, I guess you could say George Lucas had a Boba Fetish. To me Boba is a background character that became popular, and got knocked out like a punk, by a blind man.

You hardly get any of that though. He is mostly stood y Vader so he is a manlet at first glance. Then he is escorting frozen Han to a ship, then he is stood around looking menacing on Jabba's ship, then he is in teh sand. I dont get it.

Not a boomer, born in 99 actually, but used to be obsessed with Star Wars when I was younger, until Disney decided to retcon everything, now I’m sort of just passive with Star Wars, but I still play/watch/read the stuff before 2015.
But the reasons for the Mando and Boba (and Jango) things are simple, and they’re things that still happen today in other franchises. He just looked cool to a lot of people. That, and, due to his short appearances in Empire and Jedi, he had a sort of mystery/mystique to him.

And soon after his appearance in the films, he was featured in comics and novels, which usually further enhanced his mystique and coolness.

And long before the Prequels were a thing, Boba had a somewhat different backstory. In one of his different backstories pre-Prequels, there were some mentions and comic pages that showed that Boba had fought in and was a veteran of the Clone Wars (back before the Clone Wars was really explored, but some authors and fans presumed that the clones were the antagonists).

Also, Fun Fact, at one point, Obi-Wan and Owen Lars were meant to be estranged brothers.

>being basically Space Muslims who refuse to take their armor off
Um. That's newer stuff, the Cult or whatever Din is apart of is a recent addition to Star Wars.

Its like "AT-AT" walker. However there's still plenty of people that don't know Boba's not a true Mandalorian. My mind honestly still goes to fette's 'vette and him callinghimself a "peacetime Mandalorian"

I like that they tentatively acknowledged the True Mandalorians in S2 of Mandalorian.

That’s why the “Jango was a good dad, hust a crappy job” comics are usually sad.

This page ends with his helmet set near the viewer, with Jango and Boba darkened in the background, as a bit of “this doesn’t last” kind of way.

>black man kills single father who was trying to make his way in the universe
Happens everyday.

Not really. All that gets mentioned is a civil war, which we knew happened because it's what got Satine into power, and shoves the name "Mereel" in, which is not specific to Jango as that name's been associated with Boba in EU shit long before Geroge even came up with Jango. It's really nothing specific at this point because there's so much wiggle room that Dave can spin it into whatever he wants.

>until Disney decided to retcon everything
Disney didn't retcon anything, I'm afraid because they don't care about that enough to dictate something like that. It was Lucasfilm that stuck to George's ruling about the EU not being canon. Soemthing can't be retconed when it was never part of canon to begin with.

Interesting post user, thanks for the thoughtful reply. Didn't know the other appearances were a thing.

>Not really

>To me Boba is a background character that became popular, and got knocked out like a punk, by a blind man.
Ironically, that's all that he was to George. Just another villain/henchman who got his comeuppance in he end. He didn't count on Boba becoming so popular at the time.
