I wouldn't.

Why not?

This

But gun to my head, I think the Xorda arc in the old comics is the closest I’ve come to taking the stakes seriously, since Eggman is too much of a dipshit to be credible and yet another evil sonic recolour has never fucking worked. Just having malevolent aliens show up and be like ‘nice planet, I think I’ll take it’ is simple, to the point, and the bad guys could actually be a threat for once.

And even then it wasn’t very good

Let's see what Sonic Prime does. It seems like it's going in that direction.

Sonic 3&K is serious enough and still cool. So I'd do something like that.

>I want to create a story with deep themes and serious undertones
>"Cool.. What's it about?"
>Well you see, there's this blue hedgehog...

This again?

Mostly by what was probably copying better soaps or other stories. It's the difference between tragedy and misery or unintentional comedy or alienation.
I find the "serious" landmark Batman comics alienating similar to manga - they depict inhuman behaviour.
Archie sometimes creates unintentional comedy.
Misery is what most soaps and serials depict, especially modern ones. They forget that real human problems aren't aesthetic or enthralling, like how real human sex isn't necessarily pornographic, you have to adulterate it (in a good way) to make it work, something a writefag can probably explain better than I. Though most audiences probably don't see Game of Thrones or the Hunger Games in as bad a light as I do.

So, you ever read that one Zootopia comic...?

Jesus, what a time to be alive

Sonic himself is a fundamentally un-serious character. His most defining personality trait is “too cool to get flustered,” which is great for a lighthearted adventure, but makes him immune to “good” Cerberus-syndrome-type adaptations.

I think the only way to do it would be a Rogue One-style approach…following some non-Sonic characters who don’t have the benefit of being super-fast and struggle to survive in a crazy robot-infested world while Sonic and Eggman have crazy battles in the background.

'cept Xorda never bothered to check if their weapon completely annihilated Sonic's world. The price for their half-assed job was being locked in a losing war with Black Arms, their planet nearly destroyed by A.D.A.M., and finally erased from existence by the Super Genesis Wave.

Play literally any SMT game, watch any anime, or any Disney movie for Christ's sake. You literally only have this cognitive dissonance for Sonic and I don't know why.

Sonic & the Black Knight is great because it is self aware without being devoid of sincerity.

This guy gets it. The problem isn't the setting, it's Sonic specifically as a character.

Anti-Sally does things to me.

I'd remove all the anthropomorphic characters are replace them with humans

Nah you just sound like a dry, boring autist with poor suspension of disbelief and inability to accept a wild fictional story for what it is and have fun with it. Must suck ass being such a lame ass nigga. Sorry about that.

Arby's isn't as bad as people meme.

Very reductive and modernist view of Sonic, especially when he's done serious stories.

I'm glad none of you have heard of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise because I'm pretty damn sure each and every one of you would blow a blood vessel if you did.
