It hasn't "saved western animation," but it did provide jobs to artists and writers who specialize in old-school cartooning rather than the more anime-inspired aesthetics that have grown more popular among mainstream animation.
Really seems like most cartoons that do that nowadays tend to be reboots or adaptations of established IP, so while I resent SpongeBob's ridiculous number of spin-offs and seasons, I appreciate how expressive and unapologetically cartoony it's allowed to be since it's such a popular brand that it can afford to do this type of stuff. I know Paramount's to blame for the show getting star treatment above promising original Nicktoons like Glitch Techs and such, but the artists actually working on the shows are highly skilled in making some fun cartoons.
Cuphead is at least relatively new and original, so that's why I appreciate it even more.

Exactly. That's why I wanted so badly for Billy Dilley and Middlemost Post to succeed, but even I can't lie to myself and say I enjoyed either show all that much. Still, I'll always champion for more original cartoons above all else, especially since fucking Chowder came from a SpongeBob alum. Brian Morante (post-sequel board artist) created an upcoming Nicktoon called Zokie Sparkleby. I can't say the premise sounds very inspired, but I can at least expect the series to be cartoony, so I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Passing on The Modifyers will always be one of Nick's biggest mistakes. At least his wife Lynne Naylor went on to sell her own original series after literal decades in the industry. Has anyone actually seen The Mighty Ones? Show's been out since late 2020, but I feel like it's always just existed in a vacuum.
