How does this movie compare to the original material by Neil Gaiman?

Well, she was black in the books.
The actual book is fantastic, it really had that feeling of loneliness when Coraline was was on her own against the Other Mother. Wybie was an unnecessary addition to the story. The book's descriptions of the monstrosities the residents become is a lot better too, they really toned them down in the adaptations. Plus Dave McKean's art is perfect for the mood. I flipped through the graphic novel, and they really watered down the experience the book gives. The movie is fun, and good for kiddie's first horror experience, but the book has chills and real atmosphere.
Well.. you could just just read it yourself. It is just a 200 page novel with pictures for every chapter after all
>Wybie was an unnecessary addition to the story.
This. Wybie fucking ruined the ending.
>Wybie was an unnecessary addition to the story.
Not really. The book had Coraline do a lot of self narration and inner monologues, Wybie allowed that information to flow out much more naturally.
The movie would have been better with based schizo coraline talking to herself
>Coraflop
I HATE THE ANTICHRIST
Or listen to it (audiobook)
Yo guys.
I could swear there was a comic book very similar to Coraline.
About a house where children supposedly get their wishes fulfilled.
Protag was male and two mpnsters were Grin, a widely grinning guy who lures children to the magic house, and Mulch, an ugly housemaid.
Eh. The best animated Gaiman movie is still Beowulf.
She was black in the book
I HATE THE ANTICHRIST
Well, it's animated, for one.
Wybie does not exist, instead the cat is the main dialogue partner.
The cellar scene is missing in the movie.
Other than that I remember thinking when reading the book after watching the movie that it's pretty close.
Yeah, the movie never really felt like Coraline was alone. She seems peppier/uppity in the movie.
The book is lonelier, and everything seems quieter. Not the "pulse-pounding super intense colorful" chase sequence in the book. Even the Other Mother's hand was defeated in a quiet way.
Huh? I don't remember that. Why did they change her for the movie? And why haven't I heard any internet controversy about racial erasure?
I hate the antichrist
>Huh? I don't remember that. Why did they change her for the movie? And why haven't I heard any internet controversy about racial erasure?
Because they didn't, and there wasn't.
He's mocking the new LotR.
>The original book mentioned a "Mr. Lovat"
>Neil Gaiman said he was thinking of Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat and his "unsavory" implied relation to Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd.
>It is now on record that Wybie is descended from royalty and Coraline takes place in the same universe as Sweeney Todd.
Never seen it, never will. Vote Brisby
i wybie so much
This. Whybie kept Coraline from talking to herself, and allowed exposition in the film that would have been clunky to place otherwise. He was a purely functional character which is probably why they made his other version mute. Plus I think him and Coraline are cute together
