Why did it not have the same impact on Asian-Americans as Black Panther had on American blacks?

Does anybody even remember that this movie happened

Asian-Americans aren't as much of a monolith as blacks. Asians don't have some unified cultural struggle that BP tapped into, plus the ones who consider themselves Korean, Japanese, etc first didn't have much interest in a movie starring/about chinamen

Because Asian-Americans don't have a chip on their soldier and their culture actually built something in real life

Well for starters, the antagonist is based on Western propaganda against China.

Biggest mistake was probably choosing a lead that isn't really handsome enough. He's more Jackie Chan than Bruce Lee. He'll never considered badass no matter what.

We're comparing a power fantasy about not being colonized and having connections to both ancient spirituality and earth-changing technology and rare materials, to a character that was a spin-off of a Yellow Peril evil mastermind. Of course it wasn't going to have the same impact.

Asians already have tons of representation in pop culture. Not just in anime. Korean dynasty dramas are routinely the most binged thing on netflix.

This.

Personally, I really don't give a fuck about representation. As long as the movie is good then I'm happy. I didn't like Everything Every Where All At Once because its was asian, but because it was a good movie. I fucking HATED Crazy Rich Asians.

Because Asians already have action movies that mog the shit out of anything being made today youtube.com/watch?v=B215g-Evv0U

its mostly white people binging that shit on netflix to feel cultured and look at exotic stuff. there's barely any good asian representation in america. not in hollywood or anything really outside of baseball.

cuz Asian-Americans aren't fucking retarded lmao

The only demographics that love pandering are blacks and white Republicans.

Hollywood got scared off Asian male leads for years because their attempt at breaking Chow Yun-Fat, then the biggest film star in Asian, into America failed miserably.

What was he even in? I remember him being a side character in PotC but that's it

Awkwafina sure was cute tho

Hollywood unironically needed to take notes from the old Mortal Kombat movie. Just make a fun fucking film with a lead who goes through some character arcs and a villain who can scream YOUR SOUL IS MINE with a straight face while hitting on Sonja Blade, it's not fucking rocket science.

Asian Americans are a smaller demographic than black Americans. This movie felt a lot blander and far more pandering. This movie did nothing for wider audiences especially because of the issues with China. Asians weren't desperate enough for the pandering.

Also the main star is unattractive and comes across as really pathetic with all his cope posts online "asssian men are masculine r-r-rright guys". And the main female lead was ugly as fuck.

The Replacement Killers and Bulletproof Monk both had a lot of advertising muscle behind them only to flop commercially. There was also some buddy cop movie with Mark Wahlberg but I don't remember seeing much of a buzz behind that.

Are you white?

Most Asian-Americans aren't that comparatively hungry for representation because they just watch movies from China, Japan and Korea, ect.

Meanwhile African-Americans and Africans in general have to just wait for western countries to make movies about black people if they don't want to watch fucking Who Killed Captain Alex.

Basically a cool movie set in Africa about Africans that's not a re-enactment of a genocide is mindblowing to African peoples and they've never seen it before but every Asian around the world has been watching movies with 100% Asian casts with cool martial arts fights and drama with parents like every week since they can remember.

They backed the wrong asian

no

Can't blacks just settle for Spike Lee and Tyler Perry films?
