Isn't the real reason people got mad at this show that Crunchyroll spent money on it that people expected them to spend on anime stuff? The woke shit was just window dressing, people were mad that Crunchyroll was spending THEIR money on something the didn't want.

Not really. The way I kept seeing it, people were up and arms over that trailer with the use of the subscription money was just added on to their list of complaints instead of the main complaint. Heck, even now I don't really see many mention that money bit when this series is brought up. It's always that trailer. Which is fair. That trailer was spectacularly bad and it was a thing people could look to and watch while the money thing was more something people had to think a bit more about.

The show would fail from the start for selling fauxanime to animefans, if this was a netflix show or something on cartoon and was for the right audience it would probably found some love. Who knows, it could even be something like miraculous or at least a less successful owl house. Just another case of execs on top having no idea what their clients really want, the show itself is not really at fault. The wokeness don't help, I don't like and personally I think is full blown retard, but they do have an audience, but the audience are NOT western anime fans.

The trailer was horrific because it was more about who made it vs what the show was actually supposed to be, and because the show was delayed for years, that trailer was all anyone had to go off of

Exactly. That pretty much poisoned the series reputation from the start before we even saw anything concrete from it. Nothing else they could have done would have mattered after that. Every other problem was minor in comparison.

I think faux anime could work. The issue is that everyone seems to forget that part of what makes anime, well, anime is that Japan is a very hyper conservative country catering to masculinity. Even the lesbian stuff is meant to get straight men off more than it is to show support for the gays.
