What went so wrong that Minions defeated Pixar in the same way Shrek defeated Disney?
Lightyear

user, just look at that poster.
Look at that ugly, washed-out, dust-filled shit and ask that question again.
What kid would look at a poster like that and say "Wow, I want to watch that?"
It's not the lesbian kiss. That part really doesn't even matter. It's the fact the movie was boring and not what anyone wanted out of a Buzz Lightyear film. Trying to pretend this tripe is what Andy was obsessed with is just insult to injury.
Minions built up a large fanbase of kids that are now old enough to go to the theater themselves. Toy Story doesn't come close to Despicable Me level popularity.
>Buzz's serious face
>Dreamwork face on the old hag
>Smug shiteating face on the brown man
>Souless dollface smile on the black girl
Gee I wonder what went wrong
Every character looks extremely ugly.
All characters are human. No aliens.
Colors are muted.
Make a good film, make a mediocre film... Just don't make it look fucking dull.
Kids will watch shit films. Kids won't watch boring films.
does this look like something a kid wants to watch?
>Have space sheriff
>He stays planetbound
Why
I love how this board points out all the reasons this movie failed and the lesbian kiss barely factors into it aside from the media saturation regarding its coverage.
Every single time the threads get deleted lol.

The lesbian kiss is the least important, but it probably played a role with how much news attention it got that families thought the movie was more political than it is.
But even just basing it off the poster, there's nothing that stands out about it that makes it look interesting.
>Trying to pretend this tripe is what Andy was obsessed with is just insult to injury
I never got that. The movie doesn't look like a sci-fi flick from the 90s.
Mediocre movies that get pushed straight to DVD, I mean streaming. Lightyear wasn't Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and not that interesting, except for Sox.
Well, the fact it was boring meant that for a SOLD FUCKING MONTH, the kiss was all they talked about. Did not shut the fuck up about it. Every article from news sources Disney outright owns, every interview, everything was about this fucking kiss they didn't get rid of and was so progressive and amazing to the point that nobody even mentioned the villain once. Which was probably because the villain was really shit.
All the film proved is that lesbian kiss in a kids movie is not an effective marketing means, as it turns out the number of people who are itching to see it are pretty damn small.
>it aside from the media saturation regarding its coverage.
So, aside from the fact that it was the thing they talked about the most, and anyone with a 3 week memory or the ability to use the wayback machine can very easily see that's all they talked about, it barely factors in. The thing they marketed the most was so unimportant, guys!
So either that means that its not an effective means to get people to watch the movie or they had nothing else to focus on that would've done any better, or both. Showed them,
You see, I'm glad you replied to me on this topic because the movie is so full of nothing that you can realistically say "two lesbians kissed" is the most memorable thing in the whole movie. And that lasts less than a second.
The movie is that much of a dud, the other most important thing is a spoiler they tried to bury ever since it leaked.
Live Tim Allen's reaction to the Zurg reveal.

>except for Sox.
Please stop, that character was more generic sidekick kids will love more than the Minions themselves
So, both. It both was the only thing they used to market this shitheap and was not actually all that effective in doing so since it didn't work, but only because selling "hey kids space adventures is actually really bad you should stop trying so hard to go on space adventures" was pretty fucking impossible as it was and they had literally nothing better to market it with besides said one second kiss.
Glad we reached a consensus. Now we just need to question what would've happened if they hadn't had said kiss and maybe the movie might've gone through some slightly better changes if they had to, you know, actually push something besides baclash against the dude taking away their special privileges.
These niggas acting like throwing a cat character in any movie wouldn't automatically make it the best character in people's eyes.
Simple, it looks like ass, no kid wants to see this
Disney has bad rep right now too
Minions is colorful enough to get a kid excited enough to ask their parents to see it
Disney thought brand recognition could carry this with parents when in reality the only ones who would care about Buzz origin story are milenials who probably liked the cartoon more, if they adapted the bloody cartoon it could have worked but instead they went for boring colors and a dull script
>Let's make a movie about a cheesey space man but instead of making it a cheesy sci-fi movie full of colorful alien and 80s action we got bland 2020s movie that lacks any of the charm
We should have got a flash gordan-esk movie but didn't, simple as that.
I really doubt they would have had that much of something to market the film, you look at the second trailer and they try to make it seem that much more action oriented but they basically include all action there is in the film in the trailer. At some point the kiss was already cut, they reincluded it.
