i do wonder why charlie was overshadowed by george to the point of irrelevancy? was it because they wanted porky to stand out on his own or having two dogs would break the purpose of having a one character per species?

The directors of the old shorts apparently cared about criticism, so I can only assume audiences didn't like Charlie, or maybe Chuck Jones retired him so he could focus on the main Tunes. The Three Bears and Hubie and Bertie were also retired between 1951-52.
