>Methonium, a porn artist, has a successful manga in Fat Elf >Nanashi, an extraordinarily degenerate porn artist, has a massively successful manga in Nagatoro as well as an anime >Utamaro, a porn artist, is now writing the spinoff manga for Dragon Maid, one of the most successful animated shows worldwide of the decade (COOL, the Dragon Maid author, also does porn)
What's the secret sauce here that allows these otherwise segmented artists to break out and create such popular, successful things and how can America emulate it? Seems like there's a lot of talent out there on twitter and such that could be putting stuff out in the same vein, is it just a culture thing? Or is the publishing apparatus not set up to accept pitches for independent series? I feel like more varied content would breath life into the American comic industry.
not trying to be a douche, but what does it all have to do with/co/? You named japanese artists only
Noah Bell
They're used as a comparison. They can do it and have achieved success not only for themselves, but for their publishing labels. Even approaching it from the purely cynical angle of money, seems like a lot of it is being left on the table here.
Caleb Sullivan
>What's the secret sauce here They are literally given a chance. That's all.
There are artists on Patreon that rake in several thousands of dollars every month to do a dozen versions of lewd fanart. And they probably don't have to work several hours everyday and live in a one bedroom apartment like most mangaka.
I definitely think that is the extreme vast minority of patreon coom artists, and that for many others some sort of publishing deal that could hit it bug would be vastly preferable to subsisting off of grotesque furry commissions.
Levi Lee
There's also SFM/Blender animators that make thousands of dollars every month using models they get for free and do short videos of video game characters having sex. Some of them don't even upload content every month.

Who says I like faggot-tranny western cartoons? Go consoom your underage shonen boy comics fggt
Ryder Hall
I mean NuclearWasabi did put out a non-porn comic for Command Grab. Incase has Alfie which it does have fucking seems there's a lot more talking and not-fucking in it. Someone like Melkor has stuck exclusively to coom stuff but it's blatantly obvious that there is talent there for non-coom stuff.
>Command Grab Has this guy ever done proper porn for this character?
Kevin Cook
I think we saw nipples just recently but actual fucking, no.
Thomas Perez
>Why Japanese industry like this, but American industry like that? The history of who, what and how things get published in both countries is quite different for many reasons. Before the internet there wasn't any noteworthy "lewd comics scene" at all, while Japs have multiple publishers solely focusing on porn manga. There is also way less of a stigma of authors drawing porn starting in the regular business.
Japs have some meritocratic systems in place, in the west the only way to succeed on your own merit is by going indie and getting EXTREMELY lucky
Justin Myers
Doesn't Any Forums have that lesbian bdsm artist that's drawing for DC comics now? Sunrider or something.

Protestant christian culture Even european artists can draw degenerate porn and still get succesful in mainstream media, like Joel Jurion
Jordan Kelly
The opposite happened with Bruce Timm and Alan Moore drawing/writing porn.
Josiah Murphy
vanilla as fuck, except based Alan Moore making western lolicon
Jaxon Hernandez
Their industry does not have the same level of hypocritica puritanism as the USA does.
Adrian Jenkins
>There is also way less of a stigma of authors drawing porn starting in the regular business. Ko-fi will literally ban you if you produce nsfw material even if you don't post it on the site, and Patreon has been incresingly hostile towards fetish porn lately the right wing illuminati is fucking up business for porn artists
Carter Collins
Sauce on the artist?
William Cox
Read the thread.

>Protestant christian culture >Even european artists can draw degenerate porn Europe literally started Protestantism. Back then it was religious prudes censoring, now it's politically correct prudes who do it, the secret sauce is American mental illness.
When your industry makes this fucking many series each season of the year, you have a lot more room to experiment with fresh new creators, and only continue into further season if they really stand out. Dragon Maid wasn't big at all when it started out, and like you said the author had never done any massively popular manga before. But it got picked up because of the premise alone, and now the author has like 3 or more different anime made. If only a select few series ever get to be adapted into animation, seasoned vets are gonna hog all the writing spots to themselves instead of passing them out to newbies.
The nagatoro manga and anime share almost no similarities with the hentai version. If the senpai character isn't getting kicked in the balls for an entire chapter, it's not the real nagatoro. Fuck the plebs that like nu-gatoro
Brayden Perez
>Before the internet there wasn't any noteworthy "lewd comics scene" at all The whole 80s through the 90s was full of it.
