With an "asexual" character all romance storylines are eliminated- the only one you can do is "X wants to date Y, but Y isn't interested" which you can do with regular non-defectives as well. Asexual doesn't necessarily mean a disinterest in romantic relationships, just not an interest in a sexual one. Most long term marriages are usually asexual.
