Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers

Just watched this film, and had a good time. I heard that Any Forums "lost their shit" over it, though. Why?

I've heard that "pop culture references are not jokes," and this movie was basically a nonstop parade of references and cameos. But, I think it actually made logical sense for this film, because it's set in a world populated by famous cartoon characters.

Many of those cameos/references were from things I haven't even thought about in 20~30 years, so it was ultra nostalgic for me. It got surprisingly dark, too (horrific body modification) so it didn't feel like a kids' film at all.

My only complaint is that some of the skits lasted way too long - just have just made the quip and moved on, instead of stretching it out - but aside from that, almost every joke in the film landed for me.

What did Any Forums think, though?

Eh it has its moments but I am curious to see them improve this faux 2d tech

you have to start with "Now that the dust has settled, Why did Any Forums "lose their shit" over this?". there's rules dammit

They lost their shit over Gadget fucking Zipper. That's all.

>Many of those cameos/references were from things I haven't even thought about in 20~30 years
I think that's kind of the issue here, for people who don't get animation they saw cameos they recognized and clapped, where animation fans could not get the lack of substance this thing had

>"These little fuckers are tearing me apart, AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"
>Shot of Zipper smiling through the cracked barn window, he flees
>"The bastard led us here."
>Gadget screams one last time as her swollen body bursts into a swarm of mouse-fly hybrid maggots

It’s not a good movie

Also some anons got cucked

Cel shading is already good in japanese games. They just went with the cheapest option here.

I thought it was pretty decent but not a masterpiece or anything in high regard. The story comes off as rather pretty basic with mediocore cast that definitely didn't really need a "superfan" character being put as part of the cast. Roger Rabbit did it in a much better way with Eddie Valiant.

I do feel that the whole concept of Toons living with Humans should be explored much more, because it's a really fun idea that paves for fun interactions when done right. And it would be nicer and cooler to see the explorations done in other parts of world that may represent the media/animation industries in respective countries/locations.

Would be nice to see some standalone movie that has the toon/human stuff, but minus the official IPs attached as main cast to avoid the annoying complaints. And as also not actually reusing the detective plot element, but rather going for a new plot element that is unheard for this toon/human genre.

OP is a tourist.

There was no reason for this to be a Chip n Dale film. You can replace the villain and the main characters with any two characters and it would end up the same.
There's a quote from an interview with the director that should be remembered long after this movie "We felt the Rescue Rangers were too shoehorned into the Rescue Rangers movie"

No, it’s shit.

They didn't. It was a lot of knee-jerk reactionary stuff from those people who only live moment to moment online, their instant gratification dopamine glands atrophied by sites like twitter and tiktok. Mostly trolls, trans and furries, fuming for about a week.

It was just a sup-par film effort, decent art direction, poor writing, like the "Direct to DVD" Disney sequels back in the day.

My only question is will they make some kind of hardcopy for archiving available?

>decent art direction

Well. Competent at least. Someone must've been paid (or underpaid) for the effort.

1. It's a bad movie. By no means the worst one in its "pricerange," but still bad. If you thought otherwise I'm sorry for your low standards.
2. It is a Rescue Rangers movie that doesn't want to be a Rescue Rangers movie. It uses the IP in a very "meta" way. The director is on record as saying he didn't use the full group because they felt shoehorned into the movie he wanted to tell. If a guy tasked with making "The Fantastic Four" leaves out three of the main characters and does a "it's the ACTOR playing Reed" story, that's going to rub people the wrong way.
3. Crucially, this thing's been in development hell for 10 years, and during that time there have been at least three serious attempts by animators to reboot/modernize the series (probably more). Those were shot down because Disney was instead investigating in this thing by non-animators that weren't really interested in the actual Rescue Rangers property. That most definitely is going to rankle Any Forums.

Movie got retconned as non canon to RR here.

As mentioned, Disney even cheaped out on the faux 2d, Let's face it. Disney isn't a pioneer at any new animation technique or styles any more.

Oh my God...Ugly Sonic was the lynchpin of the whole premise!
They're ALL CGI rejects from Uncanny Valley working in Hollywood, doing an homage film..

You fixed the Original Show for me.
(thinking...epiphany incoming)
By that same logic then....Any Rule 34 I draw is like deepfake porn? I'm making derivative, or lookalikes or OCs.

So public domain is a real thing? We all own the rights to any and all characters to do as we wish with them, and can ignore or circumvent studios by making slight alterations?
