He gives the key when shit hits the fan, the necklace (or I'm wondering if it's a ring now) I think he returns at the beginning of that party just before the shit hits the fan.
I'm pretty sure there was some bit where he steals some jewellery off her and gives it back as a kind gesture later on. But it's very possible I'm thinking of something from some other film because that's got to have been done in loads of films.
