In order to defeat them, the warrior has to hook them and absorb their energy into the rod which in turn makes the warrior stronger. But stronger enemies can overpower the hero and the rod would instead drain the hero and leave them vulnerable. A more intense war of wills. As the show progresses, more powerful enemies appear to go with the hero's growing power.
