It wasn't Ackerman that was obsessed so much as Heidi Saha's mom. Her mom wanted to ... make her daughter a star or something? It appears she was like one of those beauty pageant moms, obsessed with creating costumes and having her daughter show up in conventions.
It seems like Heidi loved conventions, but not so much the traipsing around in something smaller then a swimsuit, and eventually her father intervened so she no longer had to do the costuming and was much happier.
