The comic industry has been plagued with soulless ghouls, who believe keeping our beloved characters stagnant is the way to go.
It's why Peter keeps suffering and doesn't have a meaningful win since... I don't even remember anymore.
One of the reasons I want Spider-Man 4 is to see him happy with MJ, with Maiday already born. Movies can influence the comics, just remember that thanks to Tim Burton's success the batsuit started to be depicted as it was in those movies.
