Peter looks like like he use to be like a literal teddy bear.

>Implying people ever had standards when it came to Family Guy

It was always seen as inferior to Matt's cartoons and South Park due to cutaways

Anybody who complains about a cartoon being "mean spirited" is the epitome of an absolute fag. Cartoons can be about degenerate assholes, or wholesome families, the only thing that matters is if they're funny or not. Nu-Family isn't funny, but that has nothing to do with Peter's characterization.

Family Guy circa the return up until the hurricane episode is the best era. The first three seasons are too stiff, the later ones are just garbage.

More episodes than South Park.

Honestly, early Family Guy was just OK.

They seem to have made him more likeable to an extent since the start of the Disney era.

People only started making fun of the show because of that one South Park episode.

You ever noticed how Family Guy and Spongebob shared the exact same fate?
>SpongeBob and Family Guy debut in 1999
>Both shows had 3 amazing seasons that are the peak of the series and loved by many
>Went to shit in their 4th seasons that started in 2005
>They became much more edgy and filled with gross out
>SpongeBob and Peter becomes more moronic, childish and evil
>Squidward and Meg becomes punching bags that gets treated like shit for no reason and lives in constant misery

The world is cynical now. Even Family Guy S1, which literally was considered cynical by 2000's standards, is borderline campy and optimistic these days.

Family Guy was always meant to be a "back to family values" series in an era where humor had gotten edgy ala South Park. The lyrics of the theme song were at one point not ironic.

And likewise they both stayed good for awhile
>Seasons 4-5 of Spongebob being good, Seasons 4-7 of Family Guy being kino.
>Season 6 Spongebob being the start of the dark age
>Season 8 of Family Guy where the show begins to decline
But both end up getting better in quality
>Hillenburg returns with Season 9B
>Disney buys out Fox and Alec Sulkin becomes the new showrunner.

Yes

It would be okay if he were always like that

Family Guy always sucked. Republican Family Guy always sucked. Black Family Guy and Live Action Family Guy 1 and 2 fucking suck. Get off it.

I'll never understand how people like Reddit Park more than Family Guy

You know what, I disagree with all of the points you just made. In fact, Family Guy, Republican Family Guy, Black Family Guy, and live action family guys 1 & 2 are some of the most high quality shows ever made.

>South Park premiered first
>Family Guy had competition from The Simpsons on FOX, South Park was/still is the king of the Comedy Central mountain
>South Park got lots of fame after people blamed it for Columbine

>Live Action Family Guy 1 and 2

What are you referring to?

This really grinds my gears

That's true to an extent but relying on overly cruel/stupid characters are a blatant symptom of lazy, uninspired writing. It happened with Homer, many such cases.

Happened with Spongebob, he became retarded and Patrick became an asshole. It's what writers do when they don't care any more.

That is pretty similar, I'd argue SB had a much more pronounced drop in quality when Hillenburg left after the movie though. FG was a bit more gradual. I think both were too successful for their own good, and they knew they didn't need to try anymore, and turned to cheap shlock humor.

>Republican Family Guy always sucked
>renewed for seasons 18 and 19
Stay mad Wojack Transman

I can practically hear Stan saying it.

American Dad was fucking excellent from seasons 4 through 10.
It's not as good as it used to be but it still manages to maintain more of its former qualities than other long-running sitcoms.

It used to be that if a character like Peter or Homer acted badly it was out of some foolishness or misjudging things. They meant well but were a victim of their own personal flaws. They were endearing but flawed in ways both comic and tragic but typically had the right intentions. For example: Lisa needs to get a reed for her sax. Homer fully intends to get it. The music store is right next to Moe's and Homer misjudges how much time he has left because he's dim. The music store closes and while he does get the clerk to open up and arrive with the reed he is late. Not out of maliciousness but a mixture of idiocy and irresponsibility and the fact that he let Lisa down becomes the driving goal of the rest of the episode as he tries to make it right.
