Synder fucked up by not making his DC movies optimistic and this was the response.

If you're going to kill anyone, wipe out their whole family, otherwise you just inspire people to seek revenge. Alternatively, hope is more powerful than fear, except when hope is tied to a billion dollar slush fund in which case a corrupt government will lead you by the nose for decades.

Vengeance doesn't work. Batman's brand of vengeance never actually brought meaningful change to the city. No matter how many crooks and thugs he beat up, crime didn't drop. He didn't realize this until he met the Riddler, who himself was out for vengeance. That dark desire to get revenge on someone or something is what leads to people like the Riddler being created. By the end of the movie, Batman realizes it is hope—hope for a better future—that brings change to make that future happen.

Isn't his catchphrase "I am vengeance, I am the night"?
