I mean yeah, it honestly deserved it.
It's revolutionary for the western animation industry, for sure.
They aren't interested in their MOBA anymore. They know it's in the decline stage and that there's no need to waste money in keeping it afloat - especially with the CCP severely restricting their minors' gaming time when it comes to online games. With Xi and the CCP being so unpredictable with their laws, and with sanctions happening to Russia and people & businesses quickly losing trust in China, they're aiming for different markets. What they're setting you up with is their future games, which range from fighting games, to action-RPGs, to isometric AARPGS and eventually an MMO. They will use their upcoming shows and movies to promote that, and not all of them will be animated. Rumor is, here's a Ryze show & Ionia show in the works (one of them being live-action, probably the Ryze one,) and Riot cancelled the concept for a live-action Garen/Katarina movie, with its concept art leaking a while back.

Disney doesn't care about quality animation anymore, hasn't in decades honestly. Doesn't help that the company constantly plays safe with their IPs either, especially in a modern age of television where everyone likes their shows and movies to have a little bit of grit in them, even kids.
Legit hoping Riot releases an animated movie that completely shits on Disney and Pixar for stealing or buying the annual animated movie Oscar award every single fucking year.
