It took eight seasons, but between Tom Cavanagh's autopilot acting, the terrible new suit and the stupid origin they went with, the DCW finally managed to ruin their best villain.
At least we'll always have season 1.

No. He went back in time to meet Barry, arrived after Barry had already died in Crisis, visited the Flash Museum, found out he was destined to become the Flash's greatest enemy, had a nervous breakdown and blamed the Flash for "betraying" him and becoming his enemy, thus creating a self-fulfilling paradox.
Further retcons made it so Barry actually mentored Thawne during one of his trips to the future. Thawne then went back in time to train with Barry and got salty he had already taken Wally as his sidekick and vowed revenge at Barry for "leading him on".
All in all, Thawne is supposed to be petty and vindictive, but I feel making the root of his obsession that the Flash "stole his crowd" a bit too pathetic even for him.

I can't shake the feeling that they should have had Shipp play Jay Garrick OR Barry's dad but not both. That was just confusing.
Worse yet that he also plays Jay in Stargirl which is a completely different continuity, with the same costume too even though he had the classic shirt in his portrait back in season 1.

I'm pretty sure that Stargirl's Jay is supposed to be the same as The Flash's Jay before he met Barry, with any inconsistencies between the two shows handwave away through Crisis.

Season 4 should have done Return of Barry Allen. Have Barry return in episode 1 but slowly drop hints that he isn't who he seems and then the midseason finale dropd the bomb that it's actually Thawne masquerading as Barry. Then the season could end with Barry returning for real to beat Thawne. They also should have brought Letscher instead of using Cavanagh every single time even when it doesn't make sense for Thawne to have the Wells face

Stargirl is in Earth-2 in the new Multiverse, Flash's Jay is from Earth-3 which doesn't exist anymore so now he lives on Prime Earth.
If they're the same guy then I have no idea how the fuck multiverses work. I don't think they really thought out the implications too hard.
