At first i was thinking that toys can not be based on cartoons. however then I remembered there being Star Wars toys and smurf toys.

This happened because a Hot Wheels cartoon in ‘69 upset both a rival toy company that bought air time and the FCC, so the network had to count the shows airtime as advertising time. I do not get it. The article talks about advertising to children (something every adult knows is bad). HOWEVER explain to me what was so illegal or what Reagan made possible. All these people imply that shows who are basically toy commercials like Transformers where made possible by him or something ?
The 80s transformers is literally nonsense that actively runs on anti-logic so it is a toy commercial pretending to be a show. So is 80s He-Man etc....

Star Wars got toys after the fact and wasn’t licensed out by a toy company, also besides the holiday special didn’t get a childrens tv show until after the law was changed.

Oh no I own a toy company and can not license a toy brand for TV. However my brother owns a animation studio and he made this new cartoon, that we simply decided to start production of toys when he was making the cartoon and he consulted me on the character designs etc so that we can manufacture the toys easily.

The laws were that the toy company couldn't be the owner of both the show and the toys. You could license toys after the fact but you couldn't make a show as an advertisement vehicle for your toys
