Its not just that. He didn't even really get to be the hero in the end either.
I don't know why the writers went in the direction they did with him, making him an outcast in his own story, and not the archtype outcast that rises above. He was made into "that guy who's just there in case we need him". He goes unappreciated.
For everything that he had gone through, he never got his due. Like Moses seeing the Promised Land, but never to set foot in it.
This is what truly makes Finn like most of us. To work hard and reap no reward for our efforts. To run in place, never getting anywhere. To be the tools of someone else's ambitions.
It makes sense that Finn ended up so hung up on Jake. Becuase in the end, Jake was all he truly had in closeness. Jake was his one true friend. Most us right here don't even fucking have that.
Everyone is mad not just for Finn never getting a girlfriend. We're mad that he got nothing. We're mad that the one most like us stayed like us. And without that one person rising above his station in life, so dies our hope to do the same.
The end of Finn's life is one none of us want for ourselves, but its the one we're doomed to. And friendless at that.
