How to write epic cosmic battles?

Don't. They always end up being bullshit "unstoppable being" vs "unstoppable being" where the only one that wins is the one the writer likes more.

You don't. Some things just can't scale past a certain point without getting ridiculous, and one-on-one combat is certainly one of them.

If you want to have two all-powerful entities fighting each other in your comic, in my opinion you only have two options: Either you have them fight by proxy and focus on the details of their battle, whether it's about individuals, armies, or entire civilizations. Show how they deal with the battle, or even just the side-effects and fallout of the battle, rather than trying to show the battle itself. Or you make the fight some abstract acid trip and go full "mortal minds cannot comprehend the true scale of their battle."

Just turning it into a basic brawl except the size of a galaxy is retarded and that picture is double-retarded because even for a baisc brawl it just looks bad.

Step 1.) Don't

Psychedelic visuals accompanied by dream/madman's logic narration

Superman Vs Mandrakk from Final Crisis and Anti-All Vs Lifebringer One from Defenders immediately come to mind. Make it meta.

Debate. Show the two characters talking about who would win in a shared mental plane and then cut back to the aftermath with one lying defeated once they agree who would win.

Make it a hard rock musical.

Just image this scene with a symphonic power metal back music.

>LIFE THREATENS!

what lego is this

Green Ultron

>LIFE THREATENS!
>cosmic energy
>sustains, prolongs
>the life most deserving!

>HOARD IT!

And this ladies and gentleman is why Annihilation kicked so much ass.

Two really big guys shooting lasers at each other got tiresome after annihilation and looks like shit in live action. They should do more concept war shit like in Ultimates/Final Crisis or man vs god like in Hickmans avengers.

>what lego is this

It's "Annihilation" from the Guardians of the Galaxy debut album, "Cosmic Stuff".

These Anons are right. The idea that cosmic entities just grow to absurd sizes and duke it out is about as dumb as it gets. Just avoid it.

That recent Defenders mini was shockingly decent for a modern comic…and, naturally, it flew under the radar of most cape fans.

Meanwhile, garbage like OP sellout month after month

I liked Gurenn Lagann's cosmic fights, they were pretty cool.

My man.....

in b4 boring guy who posts the Mad Jim Jaspers battle.

>cosmic tummy

I always preferred the "Avatar vs Avatar" kind of conflict. Pairs of incarnations, duelling across the galaxy. Perhaps every world with sentient life has their own pair who try their best to kill their opposition. It makes far more sense to show superiority through creation than destruction.

>Ship to ship
Itano circus
>Planet to planet
FTL kinetic bombardment
>Big powerful spacefaring alien to big powerful spacefairing alien
Scaled up punch-up, preferably with them blowing off and reforming bodyparts on the fly
>Reality warper to reality warper
toonforce tier nonsense fight
>asymmetrical
Convoluted weakness exploit or find/punch a hole in the big thing and then guide a weapon into the hole
>fundamental cosmic being to fundamental cosmic being
proxy fight as represented by a board game, one instakills the other, one thinks they instakill the other and then gets reverse instakilled, one surrenders, battle of words, or don't do it at all
