The Oscars

>real-life drama about a refugee from Afghanistan
>going against 4 kids movies
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS CATEGORY? It’s like if I placed a Ken Burns documentary right between Teletubbies and Barney the Dinosaur.

Is that movie good, or is it just Oscar bait?
It sounds like one.

3D animation is so grotesquely ugly

>Oscar bait
A non-diseny animated movie can't be oscar bait, since nobody on their right mind would actually expect it to win anything,

The problem is the art style, not the fact that it's 3D.

>Oscars
>as if these "awards" are anything more than disingenuous platitudes decided by a committee of old out of touch executives

>or an excuse for celebrities to give their 2nd grade lectures on politics

This category exists for only two reasons, giving unofficial free handouts to Disney so that Disney keeps giving them donation money and creating a container category so that no animated film will ever again end up like Beauty and the Beast and actually get nominated for "real" Oscars. The short film category matters even less and wouldn't even exist if it weren't just a holdover from when animated shorts used to play in front of feature films in the fucking 30s and 40s.

For what it's worth, the actual directors behind shit like Flee aren't looking for validation from the Oscars, they're looking for that from actual film festivals organized and juried by film people and not ABC and Disney.

Yeah, no. You have absolutely no clue.

There absolutely needs to be two animation categories but they've actually been CUTTING them in the past few years, because ratings are plummeting because most people just want to see who won and not seven hours of celebrities jerking each other off in ways that do not involve handing out the shiny golden statue.

How the fuck do you even determine which animated movie is the best/most animated movie?
Do these fucking idiots not understand that animation is just a style of film and not a genre?

A lot of the technical Oscars, aka the ones that actually matter, have been skipped over for years in the televised broadcast.

Most people just pick Disney or go by box office because they do not give a shit. But the academy takes itself too seriously to have something like "best animated family film" and "best animated adult/indie film".

>The short film category matters even less
Actually it’s a WAY better category. Look at the shorts they nominated, nothing from Disney/Pixar.

>3D animation is so grotesquely ugly
Retard, it's the designs

Anybody have that screencap of the Oscar voter describing My Life As A Zucchini as being literally about a boy turning into a zucchini then admitting they didn't watch the movie but saw Zootopia and Moana with their kids so they voted for one of those?

Since when has an "Oscar bait" animated film that wasn't targeted towards kids ever won

Monsters inc. ?

None of these movies deserve an Oscar at all.

The fact that the jury is not actually required to watch the movies they're voting on will always be baffling to me.

>Raya instead of Paw Patrol

Disney already got the spot, why they took two of them?!
