Will there ever be another Zappa or Beef heart in the world of music? Or do we have to wait another century before we discover other musician prodigies?

They’re both really bad though. Is this a joke thread?
>Zappa
didn't know what he was doing, steve vai wrote his songs on paper
These two were famous for their antics, rather than their musicianship.
Beefheart mogged Frank Zappa creativity and melody / phrase wise, not even close. He was on a Bob Wills sort of level as band leader (via piano, harp and voice) while FZ hacked it up in a very commercial way post MOI.
Captain Beefheart had some of the best phrasing and syncopation I've ever heard, tremendous use of a dry guitar.
I know Beefheart was a respected musician, but my point still stands, his antics were the thing that brought him attention.
This is true, and you're right about that unfortunately.
>his antics were the thing that brought him attention
the main point is the music and her great vocals and leadership.
Literally digighouls

bands like Steam Powered Giraffe are the heirs of the Zappa legacy.
So I've been wondering for awhile, I read the Wiki article for beefheart a while back and the whole thing about how he essentially went full Charles Manson with the band during the recording of trout mask and used them like musical slaves to produce his vision was fucking wild and kinda based, but I have never heard this brought up on Any Forums or in any reviews. Do people not give a shit or is it just common knowledge?
It's a combo of both.
Nigga you gay
I looked them up recently and one of them is a tranny now
sounds like reddit lore
ahhh have I got some news for you....
common knowledge for people who know their music lore, its been spoken about on here before, but you're right i think a lot of people don't know about it. Btw gotta post one of my favorite beefheart live performances, i wonder what the fuck the french people at cannes in 68 thought of this.

Nigger he wasn't responsible for that, his band was. He literally couldn't even count time signatures. Speaking as a Beefheart fan, if you really want a similar, legit rhythmic prodigy, then I would point you to Moondog.
He phrased and wrote EVERYTHING on the piano or with his voice. Drumbo notated and assigned the parts to the band and sometimes they'd trade (You) rage faggot.
Beefheart could never explain why his music is strange, he doesn't even know most of his songs, even on Trout Mask, are in 4/4. I actually made multiple threads about it once. (desuarchive.org
If you watch interviews of the Magic Band, they can explain what is going on with the album's music. If you read the drummer's book, it is clear that the whole poly-rhythmic thing came from the drummer's understanding and fascination with rhythm and tabla music, which he has being a goddamn drummer. If you didn't know, he was the one transcribing Trout Mask Replica, as well as making actual songs out of Beefheart's formless plunking away at the piano. Most people who listen to Beefheart are as clueless musically as Beefheart himself it seems.
