>music theory
is it designed to stifle creativity and prevent innovation?
Music theory
>mikucel can't into theory
*shock*
This is what people say who aren't willing to devote maybe 1 hour a day to reading a book say. What's gonna happen, you learn the rules and can never make what you want again?
Show me one (1) good artist who doesn't know any theory, then I'll believe it.
it makes it stupid easy to make music when you aren't immediately inspired, so I would say it's just a framework for working out creative problems. You're absolutely free to break the rules if something sounds great to you. Being able to describe and analyze what you have already written is never a disadvantage.

If you know chords and notes and you learn patterns from learning lots of songs that is absolutely knowing fucking music theory so literally every musician knows it
Why would someone design something to do that
Your "creativity" just ends up conforming to music theory anyway. So what's the point in spending 1000 extra hours working on a song by ear?
Musicians play so dumb with this shit. They act like they barely know what notes are, to add to their romance. Really its just a veil of privacy, mystifying the process as if to say "none of your business"
Uh, duh
I'm under no obligation to explain to normies the 10000 hours of work I put into gitting gud.

theory is just talkin about shit you do when you aint doin it.
it aint rules that are theory
Based incoherent poster
Lol no, that is definitely not what it's designed for. It's just a system for describing what the music is doing at any given time. Look down your nose at it if you will, but no one ever became a WORSE musician by studying theory.
music theory is just a tool. Like any tool, it can be used to format a project or it can be overused. Music should be composed because you have an artistic vision in mind. Music theory can help bring that to life.
However, making music solely for theoretical purposes (unless if it's serialism) is ultimately meaningless and artless.
Nah, he's right. Theory is descriptive, that's what the word means.
You're just being autistic about the word theory. Music theory is also a practical discipline.
It's literally what the word theory means, you absolute midwit kek. If it was practical it would be called 'music practice', but it isn't; practical things are composition and performance.
That's not how language works. You are being autistic about the word. Why don't you just say "HOW CAN THEORY BE MUSIC? IT'S JUST A STUDY, THERE'S NO SOUND!"... "B-BUT THE DEFINITION OF MUSIC!!!!!"
No, that's just an unintended side effect
yes. never heard a theoryfag make good music.
It was tool that was designed to rationalize music in the white supremacist framework. Anything that did not fall in line with the western standards were written off as lesser.
I can see her panties hehe
You are literally a retarded sperg.
That's just what uncreative people use it for.
To mash others over the head with bullshit terminology about "objective value" and blah blah blah.
Life lesson: *anything* good in life (religion, art, exercize, etc) will attract downer shitbirds like moths to a flame. Anything. They seek to associate themselves with this 'positive' thing for their own ego boost and because they are miserable shitbirds. Just nignore and enjoy what you enjoy.
