Who the hell actually listens to non-music "genres" like goregrind and noise and what is the appeal? Do you listen to it like regular music or is it some other experience entirely? Every time I've tried out tracks of either it's just a total unenjoyable mess and not musical at all

You're not brave enough.

grow a pair, faggot

I listen to white or pink noise sometimes when I want to focus on something, or cafe dialogue recordings. But I dont think thats what you mean, and otherwise I agree. It's just people trying to hard imo.

We like music because our speech has a natural rhythm and melodies, noise has no reason to be appealing and simply is not. Just a bunch of suckers basically.

Retard take. English has completely different intonation, rhythm and morphology than say German or Japanese, yet native English speakers can listen to different culture's music all the time. Besides, speech is inherently recursive and improvisational, so it has a lot more in common with "noise" genres than you're trying to let on

It's an artsy thing, they get to look pretentious and "smart" in front of normies. No one actually enjoys that shit.

stop lumping your neurodivergent self into "we" as if you speak for anybody normal

I listen to noise / ear rape type stuff, but I'm highly selective of the kind that I will tolerate. nobody can pretend that noise has the same artistic merit as music with actual composition, but what noise does do well is experiment with tones, frequencies, textures, any wild method of bending sound. Usually ends up being an impenetrable sonic wall that is just trash, but there's a few gems out there that, like in ambient music, will put you in a certain frame of mind that resonates with whatever you hear inside the noise. There's a lot of hyper intellectualization (is this a real word?) in noise, as if it's some avant-garde thing and not just incomprehensible sounds. I personally enjoy some of the noise in the works of Robert Turman, but I suppose that borders on drone/ambient.

Interesting. Could you share some of your gems with us user?

In no particular order:
•Yellow Swans - Drowners
•Robert Turman and Aaron Dillaway -
Blizzard
•Merzbow - Eternal Stalker
•33.10.3402 - Kanap
• Black Mountain Transmitter - Black Goat of the Woods
•Monopoly Child Star Searchers - This year in Coconuts

To list a few that aren't pure ear rape, and tend more towards ambient.

Fuck off, spineless normalfag

It sounds cool op

I mostly enjoy grindcore for the surrealism/humor value. There's something fucking hilarious about 12 second songs with sloppy blastbeats and illegible lyrics.

As for noise, it's more of a sound design thing for me. I like Merzbow because of the musique concrete edits all throughout. The Gerogerigegege and Hanatarash for the same reasons as grindcore, but even moreso.

Lol the autistic loser is seething

both noise and ambient music are (from a technical standpoint), the most boring and lame music you can make (therefore objectively bad).

(99% of the time) they have:
-no harmonic or melodic content
-no rhythmical elements (and when they do it's usually just random metal hit sounds)
-no structure whatsoever

and don't get me wrong, i am very open minded when it comes to music, Ryoji Ikeda and Autechre are to my ears, some of the best composers of our time but their stuff HAS ACTUAL COMPLEXITY.

in a world where music (and specially ambient and noise music) can be procedurally generated, random noise or pads stretched over 30 mins have 0 artistic value

shut the fuck up

I fucking LOVE goregrind. It is groovy and rhythmic and wet and soggy.

idk i had an autistic obsession with salvador dali in middle school, and through highschool i kept trying to find music that sounded like dada or surrealism. eventually i found the noisy industrial shit like TG and nurse with wound.

Contrast is the soul of all art, I've been told.
Listening to Al Bowly or Whispering Jack Smith, then harsh noise can be nice. Going from harsh rhythmic noise to something sweet, even nicer.
Also, speed. As in: amphetamine use.
Definitely makes harsh noise more enjoyable, imo.
