because they're real songs about real things people did (still do in general poor zones that haven't suffered from total globalization) to get around. they're simple and genuine, people just sung them to help pass the time and what better subject matter than hard work and nature.

it also contributes to folk culture - the people - and that warm feel of belonging somewhere. a community

shoegaze for sure, dunno why people cum over otherwise bland swirly indie rock. Some of it is cool though like FSA and Bardo Pond (when they are playing in that style)
