What is the difference between "Synth Pop" and "New Wave" ?

New wave was derived from post punk, synth pop is derived from absolute faggotry.

Not all new wave uses synths.

new wave is less pop

New Wave is Blondie
Synthpop is Depeche Mode

New wave is just another name for post punk that uses synths more prominently and has a more commercial/polished sound, but is not solely electronic unlike synthpop, which is primarily just synths and even more commercial than new wave

original wave of synth pop was a subgenre of the umbrella "new wave" movement. so new wave could be talking heads, blondie, devo, the pop group, joy division (yes, post-punk and new wave are historically the same) etc. while synthpop would be more specifically depeche mode or OMD

new wave has guitars

So what i'm getting from this thread is that Pet Shop Boys for example are Synth Pop and say New Order is new wave.

Yes, also both genres are very similar and you could forgive someone who mixes up them when discussing albums, it’s not really a big deal, especially when tons of new wave albums tend to have a couple of synth pop songs in then

>What is the difference between "Synth Pop", "New Wave" and "New Romantics"?

now your question is at least complete

fundamentally identical. just like all stupid musical subgenres.

new wave = band that say it's new wave
synth pop = band that says it's synth pop

Thats like asking what's the difference between a dog and another much better sounding dog

didn't we have this thread a couple of weeks ago?

Synth Pop was objectively better because it was guaranteed to have Synth

Wanted: Zapp and Roger
Got: 4 to the floor uptempo fluff

i thought new wave meant post punk with those african drums.

>New Wave
>No Wave
Pointless umbrella terms that say nothing.
>alt-
>post-
>indie-
Guaranteed to be trash or have nothing related to genre that is the suffix.
