You'd only need to do that if it's a Floyd Rose, and even then you have to cut the ball end >secondly You really need to take those off, the nut is slotted specifically to work in a certain way and youre putting uneven/unnatural stress on both it and the neck. Your neck could twist if you leave it like that It's better off without having strings on it than being strung like that
