Classical guitar often have straight melodies with changing chords
But theres also more "atmospheric" or "impressionistic" compositions, that are slower, that stay in a single chord for longer or are almost modal in some parts, more into creating an ambiance and effects on the listener than following a melody where it leads

I actually had the same thought after listening to piano compositions by Debussy and Ravel for a while. There really isn’t much from that era and style when it comes to guitar. The closest thing I’ve found is lute music like John Dowland, which is still phenomenal stuff.
Not classical at all and basic Any Forumscore shit, but honestly impressionistic/ambiant acoustic guitar stuff is really one of the elements that make Animal Collective stand out the most as a "pop" (using that extremely loosly) band, to me
