Boomers had all these "cultural icons" in music like Elvis, and Lennon, and Ozzy. Lord Worm feels like the type of person that kind of attention could have been directed towards by the media if they weren't so limited by their insistence on the mainstream aesthetics. I guess Cobain might have been the last person like that. Afterwards, it seemed like the "rock star" meme was "switched off" by the programmers of mind.
To elaborate, I think this because he is an interesting, strange, performative, mysterious person, because he has a weird but confident charisma about him (like Ozzy just standing there and rocking while singing for another example), because he is visually identifiable*, because he is good at what he does (but not in a way that seems "up his own ass" or "tryhard"), and because he was prominent in a very pure expression of a genre that was popular for a decade or so and seemed like a new, challenging, and timely expression of the youth at that time.
*From what I can tell he always wore all-black on stage, and sometimes performed shirtless, which created a consistent character - which I think is probably how he sees "Lord Worm" based on in an interview him asking "if I can be human for a second", before explaining that a tour would not be possible because he is taking care of his mother in her old age, and then going back into his sort of "public mode" or "character" or "persona".
