SCUM

Was this legitimately the heaviest thing ever recorded in 1987?

Also post other albums that could claim the title “heaviest album ever” at the time of their release.

Two years later with streetcleaner also, doubt anything else was as heavy sounding as that

This one is a contender for 1985.

I don’t think anything this heavy had been released at the time.

>Possessed - Seven Churches
>Slayer - Hell Awaits
>Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales
>Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
>Swans - Filth
Those are the first one who come to mind that are as heavy (if not more) than Scum desu, maybe the last one is more agressive than heavy but still

Come on man. You think any of those are as heavy as scum?

Fucking LISTEN to this. It’s insane even today.

Makes Slayer and Possessed sound like classic rock.

oh yeah also
>Sodom - Obessed by Cruelty
>Kreator - Pleasure to Kill

Do I think Seven Churches was as heavy in 1985 as an album that hadn't been released yet?

reminder that this man had a hand in inventing everything you think is cool. say 'thank you, Justin.'

The real question is what is the heaviest album of 1985?

Seven Churches, Endless Pain, or Bestial Devastation?

hardcore isn't really "heavy", it's noisy and chaotic. that's not really "heavy" to me.

there are a lot of great contenders that year but for me I would say either seven churches or to mega therion.

If your definition of heavy is thick guitars, then it’s probably Electric Wizard or Sunn O))) or something.

Heavy for me has always been synonymous with “extreme” or “intense” and it doesn’t just mean metal to me.

When I hear a really intense hardcore song, I think “That was really heavy.”

This album still sounds scary. The vocals on the B-side don’t even sound human. He sounds more like a rabid animal.

God DAMN.

Released the same year as this, and it makes it sound like Motörhead.

The bit at 4:20 onwards was so ahead of its time, it's insane. 5:11 is a literal Norwegian black metal riff, but in 1984.

Black metal from 1969.

Definitely. Nothing else in the world sounds like this song. It feels like something that shouldn’t exist. Like it exists outside of time.

This one is heavily disputed. I don’t think the tone on Triumphatus Sad was even possible in 1969.

I'm pretty sure this album got exposed as a hoax or something
The keyboards and organ were from the 60s (which was released in 1969, but was incredibly obscure and limited to like 300 copies), the guitar was added in the 1980s without rereleasing it, and then he put a drum machine over it in the late 90s, quietly released it in 2001 and hid the fact that it was released in 2001 by passing it off as his 1969 release.

yeah those guitars are 100% not from 1969

Album cover is a black and white version of their second album, from 1972.

It never existed in that high contrast Transilvanian Hunger style back in the 60s or 70s.

It was made in 2001.

Absolutely correct.

This 1972 album is legitimate though, but no where near as heavy as that """1969""" album.

The hoax is just a case of some boomer trying to acquire stolen valor by pretending to be the first metal band and he tricked people for a few years because he was producing shit in the 1960s.

I agree that it’s total bullshit, but you could probably achieve that tone with the right equipment.

The Beatles used a similar tone.

There was this in 1984, but Scum was more intense for sure.
