Why hasnt gothic country ever taken off
Why hasnt gothic country ever taken off
because country isn't a real genre
m8 country is one of the only clearly defined genres in music
Because Journalist/Think Tanks gatekeep actual creative people out of the industry, greatly limiting their ability to make anything stick.
Just listen to Townes Van Zandt, Roy Orbison, Rowland S. Howard, Death in June, Johnny Cash, Neon Judgement, Michael Gira's acoustic projects, and Wall of Voodoo if you want something resembling Gothic Country. There doesn't need to be a stupidly contrived movement of Orville Peck + even worse clones in order for you to listen to this kind of music.
The world is too pleb for it.

Never thought id see it
People don’t like country they like “cowboys” who make pop music
The Handsome Family did the theme for True Detective season 1. That's probably the most exposure it's ever gotten
They're great btw
Is 16 Horsepower gothic country? Because I love it.
Yeah 28 US Marines pulling up in black Ford Raptor Trucks
It's an underrated concept for sure. Also, eyeshadow + cowboy hat is surprisingly very kino.
