Anamanaguchi

What do you think?
I thought the Scott Pilgrim game soundtrack was phenomenal (just like the Endless Fantasy album), but I can't really get into their newer stuff.

come back, moot

were you faggots here for the two anamanaguchi amas here? apparently it was a complete mess

he didn't create shit

I was there but I don't remember much. All I remember is that they showed up expecting a civil AMA like reddit, Any Forums unsurprisingly responded with memes and shitposting, and they left after only responding to like two questions

I only remember the Andrew WK one

yeah, i was on for the second one. it was a mess

it made sense to do one in 2013 but i have no idea what they were thinking coming back to the absolute state of this board in 2019

Saw them play the full soundtrack at Lee's Palace this April. Shit kicked ass

Reminder that all moot had to do was delete Any Forums and everything from 2014 onwards would have never happened

No gamergate
No trumptards
No christchurch shooting
No tranny obsession
No glowniggers corrupting the site

Literally just get rid of the nazi schizo board and the internet would never had died like it has

You got it backwards.

Gamergate started before, when Any Forums was a largely irrelevant Ron Paul libertarian board.
Despite starting on Any Forums, GG was rapidly spreading all over the internet and gained a vocal following on many vidya-related forums and communities.
...Which eventually banned any gamergate-related discussion (at the cost of purging a sea of mods/admins that supported the movement).
This only strengthened the belief that GG was actually onto something, as the main videogame discussion boards of the internet saw an almost coordinated wave of censorship (seemingly to defend a handful of allegedly corrupt journalists).

As a direct result, lots and lots of foreigners congregated on Any Forums, because open/uncensored discussion was still allowed.
That huge influx of new users is only comparable in scope to the post-chanology days and the 2016 elections.

Meanwhile, videogame press was heavily defending their peers by attacking GG, its supporters and Any Forums, often turning against their own readers (it was the start of that strange "gamers are dead", "gamers are all toxic/sexist radicals" campaign). This created a huge anti-GG resistance, mostly by unaware people that actually believed the story of a radical army of bigots motivated by the will of destroying videogames. On the other hand, it also increased the support to GG by amplifying the controversy, unwillingly recruiting a large crowd of people that partly ended up on Any Forums.

In the meanwhile, moot was starting to have an actual social life, hanging out with proto-SWJ types. And they didn't really like the fact that their "friend" was the owner of the main toxicity hub of the internet.
So they pressured him to ban the movement from Any Forums, which was by far the most popular board at the time.

Moot as much as a faggot as he was at least interacted with the community. He would post in threads, actively ban people, you name it. Even his mods would sometimes show up like an event.

It was fun. This place works like a factory now where all semblance of moderator/admin relationship is now delegated to shitposting about jannies. Mods don't come out of their hidey-holes and if they do it's very rarely and to make some kind of point. There are still occasional bans of BTFO proportions but it's just not the same.

This started a huge exodus on 8ch and Any Forums's Any Forums (which hated the whole thing with passion, being inherently against videogame bullshit and people interested in it). Nonetheless, Any Forums saw itself populated overnight by a whole new userbase.

In the end, moot realized the whole thing backfired tremendously; people all over the site started to embrace that kind of retarded e-activism, getting more and more radicalized with time.
Despite the censorship attempt on Any Forums, choosing to ban GG-related discussion and that kind of analogous mentality (wherever it appeared) basically meant overriding the whole point of Any Forums, as heavy moderation would be needed to constantly police wrongthink.

Consider that similar movements and worldviews started popping up in several other boards, as various nerd hobbies got taken over by young activists (think of comics, card games, movies/tv shows, cartoons etc). Profit-motivated attempts to widen the audiences of multiple industries led to a hiring spree that gave influence to a wave of new creators, which inevitably introduced politics (mostly progressive) in the sacred temples of escapism that once belonged to social outcasts. In return, such phenomenon created entire armies of disenfranchised nerd "reactionaries".

Banning them all meant turning Any Forums in a strictly moderated place like reddit and any other forum out there, which kinda defeats the purpose.
So moot simply gave up and resigned in 2015, selling the whole thing to Hiro.
Fun fact: as you may know Hiro created 2channel, which is not only the most popular japanese BBS, but also the home of the Netouyo (which are basically asian Any Forumsacks). He always liked and welcomed them, and his unwillingness to ban their western counterpart on Any Forums was expected.

That's what this place has turned into. Remember this photo? It became true.

Porn is OK though!

In the end you can say GG failed. But the feeling of helplessness against a "rigged system" helped radicalizing everyone involved, and the resentment against a bunch of allegedly corrupt activists (that were growing influential in the nerd sphere) led people to take interest in politics.
Which was only natural since they were exiled to an almost unmoderated politics board.

Needless to say, Stormfront-types took the opportunity to "redpill" them about jews and communists and race and whatever, and totally lawless places like 8ch amplified the phenomenon.
Same thing can be said about the practice of policing wrongthink on the main sites, which grew exponentially after GG and basically became the norm after the 2016 elections.

So, to recap:

>censorship on the internet led people to Any Forums
>moot censoring Any Forums led people to Any Forums and 8ch
>Any Forums exploded and got radicalized because of censorship

TL;DR: Censorship is not the solution. It created the problem in the first place

That's what happens when you put an Asian in charge, they wouldn't what fun was if it hit on them forehead.

wtf I hate moot now?
