Rap seems to go in cycles between fun and serious
>80s fun
>90s serious
>00s fun
>10s serious
I expect goofy club shit to make a comeback

No?
It's always been stagnant, low energy, low effort, repetitious, boring shit that's chronically vapid and says nothing even when it tries to.
That's by design. If it isn't complete garbage, it isn't pure hip-hop in the truest sense, and only recently have people been experimenting with it to any meaningful degree.

>recently
yup, no way were people being experimental and abstract with it back then, no way at all

Correct.

Yeah, but the best came way before Tyler.

>goofy club shit
Nobody's going to clubs.

>If it isn't complete garbage, it isn't pure hip-hop in the truest sense,
t. Bladee fan

Best time hip-hop for was from like 2008 to 2016. Everything sucks now.

with the exception of odd future, the ASAP mob and Schoolboy Q 2008 to 2012 fucking sucked.

2015 to 2019 was fucking magic though. For a brief period, the labels lost almost all their power.

Hip-hop is an incredibly limited world view and it has very little to say and almost no emotional range, no capacity to be powerful or soulful or beautiful.

last year hip hop meant anything was probably 1999

>2015 to 2019 was fucking magic though.
I can't think of a single good thing that was released during that time, unless you're a fan of very shitty SoundCloud trap.

Lucid Dreams alone was proof of why that entire period of music should be airbrushed from history and never mentioned again.

seriously what's with that whiny bullshit? all the club bangers totally disappeared in that time.

Lucid Dreams was alright. XO Tour Life, Bad and Boujee, and Gucci Gang are worst offenders and much more representative of that era. I agree the whole thing is better left forgotten.

With the exception of Carti, all of this is garbage and exactly what I was talking about.

>XO Tour Life
is a fucking vibe even today. Lucid Dreams was mid as fuck.

>With the exception of Carti
that's the one good carti song. it's been mid at best ever since.
