Recommend albums that are one of a kind/unique/doing something different. And not in a disingenuous way where the artist is deliberately trying to be quirky or weird
Any genre. Pic vaguely related: I like how it doesn't take itself seriously

Mr bungle, cardiacs, Raymond scott
>is deliberately trying to be quirky or weird
That's the inspiration
King Crimson - Discipline
Any album of theirs is good but this one is so inventive and different even from what they used to do, Talking Heads meet gamelan and more
Kate Bush - Never Forever
Her best album, some beautiful melodies and arrangements, a fairy world atmosphere
Don Caballero - Don Caballero 2
Industrial math-y rock
Squarepusher - Feed me weird things
Electronic music where Aphex Twin style drums meet Jaco Pastorius style bass
Bacamarte - Depois do fim
Brazilian prog gem, pretty good guitarist, good interplay between acoustic and electric guitar, flute, bass and drums
Close to the edge - close to the edge
Prog classic
Jethro Tull - Thick as a brick
Another prog classic
Rush - anything between Caress of Steel and Presto
Each of their albums from this eras has a special feel to it and almost no mediocre songs
Mort Garson - Plantasia
Comfy synth
Ken Watson - Assembly
Frenetic jazz prog
Dun - Eros
Nice interplay between mallets, flute, bass and drums
PFM - per un amico
Sweet italian prog
Novos Baianos - Acabou chorare
Brazilian bossa nova meets rock sensibilities
Various - white elephants and golden ducks
Mali traditional music, pretty interesting. First song reminds me of Zappa
Stage Kids - Intra mental
Jazz math rock with ocasional electronic songs as interludes
Arrigo Barnabe - Clara Crocodilo
Comic book style opera with dodecaphonic and funky music
Daft punk - Discovery
Their best album, unfortunately too long with some fillers, but their most iconic songs are here
Sybille Baier - Colour Green
Heartfelt folk recorded in her bedroom in the 60s or 70s dont remember
Virna Lindt - Silver
Pop rock stuff but has a quirky aura
Zypressen - zypresse
Avant garde with some interesting things going on
Louis Cole and Genevieve Astraud - knower (their first album)
Before they were making funky meme songs on youtube, they did this album. Drum n bass with real drums, bossa nova vocas and some minimalism thrown in
Foetus’s discography, especially the early albums. The bizarre combination of industrial, jazz, rock, surf, cabaret and the use of samples make for some great unique music.
Scott Walker’s later avant-garde albums sound like nothing else I’ve ever heard. They’re like deconstructed versions of his baroque pop records.
Psychedelic, orchestral jazz rock from the late 60's. Hasn't aged a day since then and the whole thing is only 7 songs and under 30 minutes. Highly recommended for something different.

I love this guy Undogmatic he has a lot of cool stuff on bandcamp but this is my favorite youtu.be
Psychedelic progressive "black" metal that covers a bunch of genres without really going overboard. Nothing really sounds like this album over 20 years later.

PIL first 3 albuns. There's NOTHING like it and it's sincere
god i love we're only in it for the money, op is based for once
for recommendations;
trout mask replica - captain beefheart (you cant disagree with me)
absolutely free - the mothers of invention
sabbath bloody sabbath - black sabbath (lots of acoustic shit, heavenly stuff)
New Order - Technique
I just wanted something else like this but I still haven't stumbled on it yet.
No one managed to mix indie and acid house as perfectly as in that album.
Either way, you might dig Factory Floor as well as the Pet Shop Boys' Introspective and remix albums (Disco 1 and 2).
They aren't mixed at all. It's literally two acid hose songs and then a bunch of indie songs.
One of a kind psychedelic grindcore/noise rock with quite a few funky and even jazzy passages.
hey that was pretty neat
trips with based album
