modern recording studios and software render everything sterile and soulless

Not true
Quantizing is soul killing yes
You can still make organic sounding music in a daw if you sync everything by ear instead of snapping/quantizing everything like a lazy mook

The drum kit was always a parlor trick that got blown out of proportion. I can't play music with anyone without hearing that gay little snare on 2 and 4.

Just play things in sync enough instead of “fixing” shit in post, you untalented hack.

drawing on the roll is effectively the same as playing nigger

thats why i love artists with a super drummer

>any metal/modern drum kit sample will sound soulless. use vintage and rawer kits
>don't compress
>don't use overuse the metronome and grids .
>keep the minor mistakes in the take. fuck it
>try using cheaper gear, it'll sound different

No it isn't. That is one of the largest copes I've ever heard in my life

The "less is more" tumourous "philosophy" adopted by normalfags en masse is the true reason behind the death of Western music post-1980.

True
But also
99% of the people who say this are poorfags who are angry because their computer is too slow to run large sessions w/lots of plugins

holy checked

well fact is most people dig that shit
go listen to jazz dumb ass

What about addictive drums?

What is quantizing

quantizing has existed for a long time, but i think its most recently relative to a lot of performers doing a lot of live triggering and playing samples.
basically instead of 'playing' sounds you input commands saying 'insert sound here' as you play poorly compounded by various sources of input lag. so it live corrects timing flaws and can also retroactively correctly timing flaws i believe in an existing track.

but for most, its how grimes types are even remotely possible to exist.

>cymbal wash and screeching feedback intensifies
Yes sir, that right there is real rock music.

stiff and sterile is a feel unto itself.

who said music has to feel organic?

using software to align transients to a midi grid. i.e.

>set click track 120 bpm
>turn quantising on, set it to snap to 1/16ths
>hit record
>hit a pad roughly in time
>wow its in time

this is a good point

yeah

why even "play" at that point when you could just use a drum machine or whatever
