Why is sounding identical to another artist more acceptable in rap?

Why is sounding identical to another artist more acceptable in rap?
Like, in rock music, Greta Van Fleet apes Led Zeppelin’s sound, and they get made fun of for it. In rap, you basically have three-four different sounds, and every rapper neatly falls into their category. There are hosts of rappers who sound identical to one another. They even have the same names, Lil Peep, Lil Wayne, Lil Pump, Lil Tay, Lil Pimp, Lil Xan, Lil Thug, Yung Peep, Yung Wayne, Yung Pump, Yung Tay, Yung Pimp, Yung Xan, Yung Thug, etc. etc. etc.
Why is this generally considered okay in rap? What makes the culture so different?

Retarded take but there is an element of truth to your ststement. I think zoomers dont listen to rappers strictly for their music but also their personality, so the similarities in music are made up for by their individual actions.

None of the artist you mentioned sound even remotely as similar to each other as Greta Van Fleet sounds like Led Zeppelin.

that's true for most popular genres

>What makes the culture so different?
why create when you can steal

I dont see your point. Plenty of blues and rock artists sound similar too, no one cares.

>Lil Peep, Lil Wayne, Lil Pump, Lil Tay, Lil Pimp, Lil Xan,
Who was the first "Lil" and why did this become a trend.

>Why is sounding identical to another artist more acceptable in rap?
The opposite is true. Rock had cover bands, which don't exist for rap

how many punk bands sound exactly the same?

>no one cares.
Absolutely false. Sounding identical to another rock star could end your career. Sounding identical to another rapper won’t even get you criticized

All of them, but punk is essentially rap.
Punk is to rock as rap is to soul/funk/r&b
An industry for talentless hacks to make their derivative sludge, piggybacking off better music genres. The posturing, the style over substance, the brainlet politics, punk is to rock as rap is to soul/funk/r&b

Holy shit retard, you're comparing a band playing something made by someone else to all those tens of thousands of dorks that play the same exact pentatonic scale blues licks and all sound indistinguishable whenever they improvise.

People are gonna say x rapper sounds like y rapper and the guy is gonna live in his shadow if he doesn't differenciate himself

Cochise to Playboi Carti, Playboi Carti to Uno the activist is a better example

Kendrick, Migos, and virtually every rapped since 2014 sound identical.

Rapper y sounds like rapper x and nobody cares
Rapper z sounds like rapper y
Rapper a sounds like rapper z
And then rapper x dies at like 22 years old (gets shot), and people go “we lost a real. The Kurt cousin of this generation. His sound was so unique and influential.”
And then rapper y dies at like 22 years old (gets shot), and people go “we lost a real. The Kurt cousin of this generation. His sound was so unique and influential.”
And then rapper z dies at like 22 years old (gets shot), and people go “we lost a real. The Kurt cousin of this generation. His sound was so unique and influential.”
And then rapper a dies at like 22 years old (gets shot), and people go “we lost a real. The Kurt cousin of this generation. His sound was so unique and influential.”

It's pretty common in metal
It's called X band worship, not necessarily seen as a bad thing either

It isn't. The majority of dadrock sounds the same

Soul/r&b mogs rock, bad comparison

>rock

That’s a perfect example, many people have remarked on the fact that Elton John and Billy Joel sound the same. Its brought up all the time in discussions of either one of them.
In rap, everyone sounds the same and it’s not even remarkable. Nobody even cares to bring it up

Because black people are an opressed minority, so they get a pass. Whypipo, in the other hand, are all privileged, so it's okay to make fun of.
