I like his jethro tull work
Get both versions and decide for yourself. Steven knows his shit really well and the work he did for King Crimson actually adds more to the music, if that was ever possible.
His Gentle Giant mixes are also very good. Octopus sounds as fresh as possible. However, if I had to choose, I'd take the first pressings no matter what. Also "remix" is not really accurate, he just remastered them.
Yeah, I think they sound great.
I wish he remastered gabriel era genesis
They’re remasters, not remixes
>loves Marillion
>collabs with Steve Hackett
>dislikes Genesis
I'll never understand his reasoning behind this
I've never found the source of his supposed dislike for genesis

He seems to know his shit about them too
Poor Mikael...
kek
completely btfo
He makes the better music, nevertheless.
right, my bad
>Get both versions and decide for yourself
i hate this kind of reply - if i wanted to, i would've, i really don't need you telling me that. maybe i just don't want to listen to the same album back-to-back and am satisfied knowing what the consensus is

good to know, thanks

i know, i misspoke when making the thread
that's for sure
still very funny though, the look on mikaels face is priceless
poor guy got absolutely obliterated
It all goes down to how you perceive music. If you want crystal clear production and clean sound, go for Steven Wilson's versions.
If you want to experience a more authentic, full blown 70's sound, go for the originals. Also avoid any remaster made in between.
Mikael is a funny lad, no matter what context. During Opeth concerts I laughed a lot harder than I did to any comedian or stand up act. I'd pay to see him telling jokes and little stories for an hour while playing some guitar riffs on an acoustic guitar.
thanks, this was helpful
His Yes masters are great. Crystal clear and full bodied. The kick drum is lip as fuck though. It always was, but the amazing clarity of his work makes it worse, though other than a full re-recording I don’t think there was any way to salvage it. His masters are always my go-to versions for classic Prog.
nah
he butchered yes' discography, especially relayer
his jethro tull works were fine tho
Didn't he also remaster Tears for Fears?
Don't be so sure, you are assuming intact final masters exist.

Steven Wilson with a gun
Yeah I heard a few tracks off his Free Hand mix and it's a lot better than the original.
The original mix was pretty bad though.
Yeah, he did
