I'm white and find myself mostly listening to white rappers. I think it might be a cultural thing kinda. I do like the rap style but can't stand having the n-word shouted at me. Also I notice that a lot of black hip hop has a heavy anti-white slant and is basically designed to make you feel intimidated or has direct drug references that I think aren't too clever.

But black rap like Del is great. Digable Planets also was a group that I enjoy/enjoyed a lot. Wu Tang is absolutely classic even if I'm being a hypocrite.

Really to me it's all about word play. If it relies too much on gangster tropes or too much on drugs it's a turn off. But I feel the same about rock music too.
